Abstract
Sacral nerve stimulation is an effective therapy for severe constipation; however, the mechanism is unclear. The retrograde approach of sacral nerve stimulation has a lower possibility of lead migration and infection than does the transforaminal approach. Leads can easily cover S2-S4 using a retrograde approach, unlike the transforaminal approach. In this report, we describe a case of sacral nerve stimulation using the retrograde approach to manage intractable constipation in a patient with cauda equina syndrome.
